Obituary of Robert Murphy

The passing of Robert “Bob” Murphy of Fredericton, NB, husband of Gladys (Meating) Murphy, occurred on July 23, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on December 18, 1932 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Vaughn and Mary (Clarkson) Murphy. Bob worked at NBTel for 45 years. He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, where he was a choir member, and a lay reader. Bob was the past president of the Guild of St. Josephs and Order of St. Luke, and the Capital Winter Club; he was also a member of the NBTel Pioneers and was the Chairman of the Board for Millcove Nursing Home. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughter, Dianne MacKay (Jamie) of Hanwell, NB; son, Dr. Bruce Murphy of Chicago, Ill.; grandchild, Teagan Murphy; brother, Wayne Murphy of Saint John, NB; sisters, June Foster of Saint John, NB, and Elaine Andrews (George) of Saint John, NB; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Lee Murphy; grandson Seamus Murphy; brother, Gerald Murphy. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB from 2-5 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Fredericton, NB on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11 am with Rev. Canon Bill MacMullin and Rev. Paul Ranson officiating. Interment will take place at Oceanview Memorial Gardens, Saint John, NB at 3 pm following the Service. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (New Church Fund) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
