Obituary of O.Jean Saunders

The passing of O. Jean (Mason) Saunders, wife of the late Loren L. Saunders, occurred on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born on July 20, 1920 in Brockville, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (McClure) Mason. Jean graduated from Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She then joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1944. She served in Canada and England as a Lieutenant Nursing Sister, and was a Veteran of WWII. Jean worked as an RN at the Victoria Public Hospital and the DECH and spent countless hours volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross Society, Canadian Blood Services and Fredericton Community Kitchen; serving on the Board of Directors of the Fredericton Community Kitchen up until 2010. Jean is survived by four sons, David of Petaluma, CA., Michael of Calgary, AB, Mason (Elizabeth) of Calgary, AB and Scott (Francine) of Fredericton, NB; three granddaughters, Melissa (Randy), Tabatha (Junior) and Sara Jean; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Owen, Isabelle and Gracie; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her loving husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by sisters, Ivy (Mason) Greenwood Brook and Eleanore (Mason) MacLean. In keeping with Jean’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 10:30 am with Archdeacon John T. Sharpe officiating.
