Obituary of Mary Thomas

Thomas, Mary Constance The passing of Mary Constance Thomas of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late, Grenville Thomas, occurred on Friday, May 20, 2016, at York Care Centre. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Louie and Anne (Craft) Joyce. She was a member of St. George's Anglican Church in West Saint John. She worked in the church library, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Mary was president of the AYPA and Girl Guides. On, Oct. 17, 1942, she married Grenville Denton Thomas, who was serving in The Royal Canadian Air Force. When Grenville was posted in Guelph, ON, she was manager of a ladies clothing store, The Colonial Dress Company. After the war was over, they lived in Saint John before moving to Campbellton, NB, where she was the president of both the Kinette Club and the Ladies Air Force Association Choir. She also was involved with Cancer Society Drives and many other charitable organizations. In later years, Mary was the president of St. James the Less, Ladies Guild, and a member of the Altar Guild. After Gren's retirement, she worked at Hayward and Warwick's China Shop. She had already possessed a good deal of knowledge regarding China patterns and pieces, which became more advanced at that time. Her specialty with customers, social circles and family, was her beautiful table settings. Mary was an avid supporter of The Anglican Church and of her husband's 40+ year career, with NB Tel. She was very creative and had a great knack for decorating. These were real assets in many craft fairs, suppers and entertaining events at the church, in the community and in her home. She knew how to "care with flair." She lovingly tended to the needs of her husband during his long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Mary is survived by her two sons, Rev. Peter Thomas (Janet), of Fredericton, NB, and Rev. Reginald Thomas (Janice) of Perth Andover, NB; grandsons, Luke (Susan), and Rev. Andrew Thomas (Kelly); six great grandchildren, Hannah, Elijah, Ethan, Jude, Micah and Isaac; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Milton Joyce. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wed., May 25, 2016, from 12-1:45pm; followed by the funeral service at 2pm. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill-Greenwood Cemetery, Saint John, NB, on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 11am. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to York Care Centre Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
