Obituary of Hazel Dorcas

The passing of Hazel Ethel Dorcas of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Irvine Dorcas, in her 93 year occurred on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Shannex Parkland, Fredericton, NB. Born on June 12, 1923 in Williamsburg, NB, she was a daughter of the late William and Viola (Gallagher) Dorcas. Hazel was previously the owner of Hazel’s African Violets. She was well known for her love of the African Violet and had one variety named after her, “Hazel’s Pride.” Hazel is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Cross (Brian) of Fredericton, NB and Jane Keith (Gregory) of Sussex, NB; her sons, Greg of Fredericton, NB and Daryl of Cold Lake, AB; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren ; her sister, Maxine Merrill of New Maryland, NB; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her infant son, Gerald Dorcas; her daughter, Sylvia Scott (Arthur); her granddaughter, April Dorcas; her sisters, Norma Brewer and Eileen Mersereau and her brother, Albert Dorcas. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, March 25, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 3 pm with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. Interment will take place in Williamsburg Community Cemetery at a later date.
