Obituary of Claude Johnston

The passing of Claude Burton Johnston, husband of Irene (Banks) Johnston, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 4, 1933 on Grand Manan Island, NB, he was a son of the late Carl Sr. and Mabel (Wilson) Johnston. Claude was a painter in the Fredericton area for over 50 years. Claude had a passion for sports, hunting and fishing. He married Irene whom he met going to a youth rally in Doaktown; they were married for 57 years last December 20. They had three wonderful sons, Eric, Robert and the late Cedric who passed away June 19, 2015. Besides his wife and two sons, Claude is survived by his daughter-in-law, Kathryn and grandson, Luke who was grampy’s special grandson; sisters, Sabra (Richard Ward), Rev. Lona, Anna Ingalls and Theresa Barry of British Columbia; brother, Hazen (Elmina); sister in law, Marjorie Mercure; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Cedric; brothers, Harry and Carl; in laws, Irma and Wallace Banks of Marysville. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2 pm with Rev. A.J. Plaizier, Pastor Normand McDonald and Rev. Lona Johnston will officiate. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, donations may be made to Autism Connections Fredericton Inc.
