I haven’t seen Neil for many, many years. I had the pleasure of knowing him, growing up on Chestnut Street. We were in the same classes at Albert Street School Junior High Neil was a great athlete and a notorious tease with a great sense of humour – the class clown. When I would go home to visit my mum over the years I would walk up Chestnut Street and walk by the Harvey house. I am saddened to hear of Neil’s passing send my deepest sympathy to his family. I have some hockey pictures which I tried to post but was unsuccessful. If you send a contact email I will send them to you.

Sorry for your loss Lucy! Neil was a dedicated coach and believed in each of us, and he knew our potential and would push us until we got there.
Basketball was a huge part of my school years, and Neil knew how much I loved the sport. I will cherish those memories. It was nice having him as a neighbour and waving to him when he drove by or taking the time catch up.
RIP Neil

May you find comfort in your many memories of Neil to help get you through the difficult days ahead. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Neil was my first basketball coach at SHS. We may have been his inaugural team! In 1976 it was my first year in junior high and making the cut was the biggest priority for me. I remember him reading off the names of who made the team and mine wasnt read, my heart sunk! He looked at me and grinned and as I was fighting back the tears he said "oh ya, I forgot one" and he called my name. He did this to me again in grade 8 when I tried out. I guess he knew what it meant to me to be on that team. He had a lot of patience and coaching girls was not an easy task but he stuck with it and we are all better for it. Thank you Neil for your dedication!

my sympathies are with family and friends of Neil. My mom, (Maria) Lynn Kovacs, worked for him I believe at the ...Forest Products Marketing Board?... She was called in to meet with him for a second interview where she Informed him that he either liked her enough to hire her or not,but she wasnt coming in for another interview. He laughed and asked her if she wanted the job! She did and she though he was terrific! May loved ones (Jeff) find comfort in stories and hugs during this trying time. Bianca Kovacs

Lucy, Bob and families, I am so sorry to hear od Neil!s passing. I will always remember everything he has done for me, for all the practices trying to teach me to do a jump shot, trying to catch me not paying attention during practices by throwing the ball when I was least expecting it and trying to calm me down in my first few years of coaching! He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to you all
