Obituary of Lloyd Perley

Life Legacy Perley, Lloyd Lebaron (July 5, 1918- January 30, 2016) Lloyd Perley passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Maugerville, NB, he was the youngest son of Harvey and Bessie (Strange) Perley. Lloyd was born and remained on the farm originally founded by family in 1762. The farm provided Lloyd with multiple opportunities for diversity and entrepreneurship. In his youth it was a mixed farm growing vegetables, raising pigs, hens and horses. As a young man he raised silver foxes. He took his beloved Belgian horse team into the woods on their 500 acres to cut and haul lumber to Saint John via horse and sleigh and river floats. He continued working with horses for many years. In 1948 he married Elizabeth Black from Kingsclear and together their list of marketable products expanded from firewood and vegetables to include eggs, churned butter and buttermilk. By the time his three sons; Edwin, Jack and Dale were born, they were operating what was known as Ledjadale Dairy Farm. These many years Lloyd’s life has been dedicated to the farm. His love for working hard, problem solving and his maintenance skills have kept it operational. His active lifestyle and keen mind have ensured his continued contribution. Lloyd has always kept an active role on the farm including this past spring driving the tractor for haying. He had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren and valued every moment spent together. Lloyd had a gift of being instantly likeable, with just a look or a few words he could charm and humour anyone, especially the ladies. Lloyd is survived by his sons; Jack and Edwin (Glenda), grandchildren; Harlane, Sarah (Ryan) and Craig; brothers in law, George (Hattie) Black and Ernest McBain; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Dale; grandson, Jacob; sister, Blanche; brothers, Arthur, Frank, Dudley, George. A sincere thank you to Denise Aylward (his great friend of many years), Joanne and Cathy for their wonderful care, friendship and all the fun and laughter shared with Lloyd. Thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at the Oromocto Public Hospital for the exceptional care and comfort shown to Lloyd and family. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 1 pm followed by the funeral service at 2 pm with Rev. Charles Harvey officiating. Interment will take place in Maugerville Baptist Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
