Obituary of Myron Millett
The passing of Myron Charles occurred on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Nashwaak Villa in Stanley, NB. Born on December 24, 1924 in North River, PEI, he was the son of the late Rev. John Stanley and Eleanor (Evans) Millett and grew up in Saint John, NB.
Starting as a Red Cap when he was 15 years old his career in the Canadian National Railways was interrupted by World War II, when he enlisted in the Air Force at age 17, after which he returned to the CNR. He worked in various departments to finish the last 20 years as a Transportation Research Analyst. In the meantime he signed up and served for 10 years with 21 Service Battalion RCEME Moncton as a staff sergeant. He was a past member of the Kinsmen Club.
He was a great guy, kind, generous and honest to a fault (a staunch Liberal). He loved to receive visitors into his home, offer them refreshments and regale them with his jokes. He didn’t just love to cook; he wanted to make sure everyone was well fed.
Self educated, he was an avid reader of news papers and history and world affairs magazines and he could converse on any subject and solve the world’s problems.
Having retired at the age of 53, he then had time to devote to his hobbies; gardening (especially flowers), woodworking, playing cards and travelling. His children loved him and appreciated him, most of all for his kindness, which was spread around to nieces, nephews and neighbours.
He met the love of his life, Hazel Hardie, when he was 24 and she 19 in Amherst, NS. He devoted the rest of his life to her happiness and his first gladiola of the season was for her. They both danced beautifully, even into their eighties.
They were a couple to be remembered for their devotion and love of life and adventure.
Myron is survived by his daughters, Myra-Jane Dysart (David) of North Tay, NB, Judy Millett of Halifax, NS, Joyce Millett of Montreal, QC and Ginny Scott (Ian) of Calgary, AB; son, Stewart Millett (Claudia) of Victoria, BC; nine grandchildren, Graham, Sasha, Jonathan, Geremy, Jennifer, Amy, Michael, Sarah and Alexandra; great grandchildren, Jonah, Lauren, Jersey, Daphne, Meredith, Laurie, Anna, Ronan, Lucas and Janie; his brothers, Benjamin and Robert Millett. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Laura Bane and brothers, Orvin and Ross Millett.
A Memorial Service will take place in August. Interment will take place in Stirling United Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Just Friends Food Bank, the Nashwaak Villa or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
