Obituary of Patricia Sumner
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia “Lou” Sumner, loving wife of Mark Sumner. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on December 29, 2015. Born on December 28, 1958 in Montreal, QC, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Dorothy (Stephenson) Empey. Lou was a dedicated employee for Horizon Health at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Communications and was recently recognized for her hard work with a special award. Two great loves of her life were her puppies; Annabelle and Lucy. Other hobbies that brought her and those around her great joy were knitting, baking, running and staying fit.
Besides her husband, Lou is survived by her sons, Michael Sumner of London, England and David Sumner of Fredericton, NB; her daughters, Gillian Stafford of Grand Manan, NB and Emma Sumner of Fredericton, NB; her grandchildren, Weston, Honey and Lochlan; her sisters, Mary Ann Leslie of Toronto, ON, Susan Chatterton (Richard) of London, England, Janet Parke (Kevin) of Aurora, ON, Elizabeth Sparling (Kent) of New Market, ON; sister-in-law, Dee Phillips (Richie) of North Carolina; her brother, Burton Empey (Julie) of Westfield, NB; brother-in-law, Dan “Booner” Sumner (Toni) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her mother-in-law, Gladys Sumner of North Carolina and numerous extended family members. In addition to her parents, Lou is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Ed Leslie.
A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 4 pm with Pastor Matthew Maxwell officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald MacDonald House, the Canadian Red Cross or to Hospice House Fredericton. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
