Obituary of William Whelan

The passing of William “Bill” Aneas Whelan of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Joyce (Graham) Whelan occurred on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 26, 1936 in Woodstock, NB, he was the son of the late Alphonsus “Bill” and Eva (Tommy) Whelan. He was a flooring salesman at Ritchie’s Carpet Warehouse. Bill spent many years as a coach with Fredericton Youth Hockey and he also coached baseball. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Bill is survived by his daughter, Tina Collins (Derek) of Burtts Corner, NB; sons, Peter Whelan and Jimmy Whelan (Beth Hoyt) both of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Makenzie, Jacob, Jamie and Brady; chosen grandchildren, Thomas and Nicholas; sisters, Mary Carr and Catherine Hourihan both of Toronto, ON, Marlene Tomilson of New Hampshire, USA and Shirley Kerner (Melvin) of Texas, USA; sisters in law, Jackie Dickinson and Jean Doak both of Woodstock, NB; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by is infant grandson, Dylan. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 30, 2015 from 12:30 and 1:30 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm with Father John Jennings officiating. Reception will follow in the Fireside Room. Remembrances may be made to the Fredericton SPCA or the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation.
