With autumn being the season colour and nature’s preparation for a long winter’s sleep, Lloyd Darrell Demmings passed away with family by his side on Tuesday, October 13th, 2015. Lloyd was born on April 2nd, 1936 and was the son of the late Samuel and Daisy (Fairweather) Demmings. Lloyd is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Thelma (Wasson), daughter, Vanessa (Paul) Levesque, Richard (Brenda Page) and Darren (April Rolet) all of Fredericton. And four cherished grandchildren, Christian, Keaton, Michelle and Chandler plus many nieces and nephews. With the recent passing of his younger sister Mary, Lloyd was the last surviving member of his family. Lloyd was predeceased by his sisters Murial (Red) Murphy, Donna Duffy and Mary West and by his brothers Corbett Fairweather and Clayton Demmings. The colourful man that was Lloyd Demmings was a friend to many and the life of a party. Social time with friends and family was important to him as witnessed by all of those who ventured to the camp at the juncture of Lake Stream and Salmon River or to the watery paradise that was Scotchtown. It was about taking time to joke, to laugh, to chat, to advise and to maintain friendships new and old. Specific mention to Lloyd’s closest friends from both Moncton and Scotchtown who were very important and dear to him. Lloyd spent most of his working career with both Chrysler Canada and GM but began his career at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Chipman and moved into the position of accountant at the old Eaton’s store in Moncton and finished his career with Convenience Video on Hubbard Road. Lloyd also contributed to the community of Fredericton as a long-term member and once Exalted Ruler of the Fredericton Elks, Mason of the Masonic Lodge and member of the Fredericton City Club. The family would like to express sincerest gratitude to the caring staff of the York Care Centre. Specific expression of thanks to the RNs, LPNs, RAs, cleaning staff, roommates of the Birch Grove wing of the York Care Centre and to “Buttons the cat”. Your kindness and caring towards Dad for the four years he was there was appreciated more than you know.
