Obituary of James Noble
It is with great sadness we announce that James (Jim) E. Noble passed away in his home in Fredericton on September 20, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Blackpool, England, he emigrated to Canada in 1964. In 1968, he married his love of 47 years, Nora (Casey) Noble. He is survived by wife Nora, sons Paul (Darlene O'Brien) and David (Lucia Frecha), daughter Danielle (Patrick McCay), grandchildren Jack and Abbey McCay– for all of whom he had too much love in his heart, he said in his final days. Jim is predeceased by his parents James and Alice (Dale) Noble and leaves behind his brother Ray (Maureen), nephew Dale (Trish) of England and the entire Casey family of Newfoundland.
Jim is fondly remembered for the grown-up boyhood that he possessed through the whole of his life. In his younger years, he was a successful and versatile athlete, with a semi-professional soccer career with the Blackpool Rangers and a stint with the English Premier League’s Fulham’s reserve team. He won two provincial curling championships in Newfoundland & Labrador and represented the province in the 1973 Brier. He was active in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus and in local and provincial youth soccer, hockey and gymnastics as a coach, manager and board member. Jim was his kids' biggest fan.
Following his retirement from NB Power in 1995, Jim golfed to his heart’s content, as a member of the Fredericton Golf Club and on annual trips to Myrtle Beach. To the chagrin of his buddies, he won more than his fair share of tennis matches, hockey pools and poker games. He was a friendly competitor and was known for his great sense of humour. For the past 10 years, he and Nora loved their winters in Florida and six weeks a year in Ontario with their beloved children and grandchildren.
He is forever loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Friends are kindly asked to share their fond memories and funny stories about Jim. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
