Obituary of Douglas Laws
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Lloyd Laws, husband of the late Ruth (Moore) Laws at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Doug was born in Maple Grove on September 7, 1925 and was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Bessie Laws.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Doug is survived by his children, Deborah Laws of Fredericton, NB and Douglas Laws Jr. of Bandon, MN; grandchildren, Katherine (Wright) Laws of Pepperell, MA, Allen Laws of Denver, CO and Jennifer (McNeill) Laws of Edmonton, AB; four great grandchildren.
Doug was a member of the RCAF and was in the building industry for many years after being in the service. He was the maintenance supervisor at the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation in Fredericton before going to Saint John where he was a safety inspector for the government. In 1969 he and Ruth moved to Newburyport, MA and worked at the Hawthorne Regional Center for many years, then at the Maritime Museum in Newburyport before returning home in 1995. He enjoyed his retirement with family and friends, after rebuilding Ruth’s family home in Marysville.
There will be no visitation by his request. A Graveside Service will take place at Olivet Wesleyan Cemetery (next to Crosspoint Church) on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Lona Johnston officiating. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
