Obituary of Juanita Atkins

Life Legacy Surrounded by her family on June 9, 2015, Juanita Louise Atkins (Fowler) of Fredericton passed away in Fredericton. Juanita was the wife of Alan Atkins. Born in Saint John on March 29, 1958, she was the daughter of Leta Fowler (Gordon) and Kenneth (Joan) Fowler. Juanita was an elementary school teacher for 35 years, beginning her career in Fort McMurray, AB. After 9 years, she and Alan moved back to New Brunswick where they both got their Master’s degree and jobs in Fredericton. Juanita loved to take pictures of the beautiful scenery around her, the sunrises and sunsets. She also loved to sew, knit, bake and spend time with her family. She and Alan were long time volunteers with the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival and she enjoyed camping and travelling, eventually finding Barbados as her happy spot and cheering on the UNB Varsity Reds Men’s Hockey. A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Alan Atkins; her son, Matthew Atkins (Ji Young Yoon) of Calgary; her parents, Leta Fowler of Fredericton and Kenneth (Joan) Fowler of Sussex; brother, Gordon Fowler of Fredericton; his daughters, Stephanie Fowler of Ottawa and Allison Fowler of Fredericton; sister, Marilyn (Bruce) Baird and their children, Andrew Baird of Ottawa, Hilliary Baird of Fredericton and Heather Baird of Saint John; her in laws, Al and Joyce Atkins of Miramichi City and brother in law, Bruce Atkins (Alma) of Calgary. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Terry Atkinson officiating. A private interment will take place in Pickard Merrithew Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Gordon Plummer, Dr. Andre Leroux, Dr. Farah Naz, Dr. Margot Burnell, nurses and staff of Saint John Regional Hospital and the wonderful, caring and loving nurses and staff on 4SE at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
