So sorry to hear about your loss.
Here is a poem that is very encouraging.
Our love goes to all.
The Dash
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
that they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent YOUR dash?

I am so sorry to hear of jack's passing. Jack was married to my great aunt greta for most of my younger childhood years, even after she passed he continued to welcome all of us neighbourhood kids, we all hung out at jacks in our teens , later when i had children of my own he and laura showed the same kindness to my kids when they were little. because of jack i'll never forget the value of a treasured yard sale find, or that brown jersey cows really do give chocolate milk (when we were little he gathered a bunch of us neighbourhood kids and milked the old jersey cow he and greta had, she always got chocolate milk for us kids off the milk truck and he had snuck some into the pail, i'm sure most of us beleived that cow gave chocolate milk until we were far too old to know better) all the drives in the back of the truck around the lake on nice summer nights will be memories many of us "neighbourhood kids" will treasure for years to come .

Sorry to hear of Jack's passing. Although I haven't seen much of him in recent years, we did spend a fair amount of time together when I was younger. I have fond memories from those times, Jack was always a caring, thoughtful man and will be missed.
