Obituary of Michael Reissner
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Reissner of Fredericton, NB. He was married for 68 years to his loving wife, Sofia (Hoos). Born in Mönchdorf, Romania, he was the son of the late Samuel and Sophia Reissner.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Brigitte McKay of Fredericton, Gunther (Gert Lawlor) of Yoho Lake and Rick (Alanna Sherwood) of Fredericton; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Mena) Shonoda, Dawn Marie (Patrick) Samuels, Kyle Reissner and Anna Reissner; three great-grandchildren, Michael and Christopher McKay and Brianna Porter; his sisters, Sofia Graef and Hermine Nierlich; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Reissner.
A World War II veteran, he immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his wife and two oldest children in hopes of a better life. Through many years of hard work and dedication, his dreams were fulfilled. He built his own home and worked at Maritime Engineering; Wilson’s Builders and then retired after working as a carpenter at UNB. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the camp at Yoho Lake.
A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 2 pm with Pastor Douglas Moore officiating. A reception will follow in the fireside room. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences
