Obituary of Mavis Hovey
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mavis Darlene Hovey of Canterbury, New Brunswick, on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. Born on September 1, 1962 in Fredericton, NB, Mavis was the chosen daughter of the late John and Noreen (McAllister) Hovey of Ludlow, NB.
Mavis is survived by her partner, John Donovan of Canterbury, NB; her three daughters Jenny, Kendall and Spencer Paul; sisters Alena MacAlastair, June Scott (Robert), Carole Hovey-Smith (Dr. Douglas Smith); several nieces and nephews.
Mavis was devoted to her daughters, whom she raised with great love and compassion. Mavis, in her own words, was “so proud of the women they are becoming”.
Her career spanned from many years with Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Fredericton, to working in the office of Dr. Douglas Smith, where she implemented the transfer of patient files to electronic medical records.
The family thanks Dr. D. Gowan, Dr. Gillies-Doyle, Dr. B. Sainz as well as the caring nurses and staff at the Palliative Care unit at the Dr. Chalmers Hospital. Their care and compassion will always be remembered.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 4 pm to 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 2 pm with The Very Rev. Geoffrey Hall officiating and Father Tom Smith assisting. Interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton, St. James the Greater Anglican Church, Ludlow, NB or a charity of the donor’s choice.
