Obituary of Eileen Murray

The passing of Eileen (Goulding) Murray, of Fredericton, NB, formerly of Doaktown, NB, occurred on March 26, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England on October 15th, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John and Ivy (James) Goulding. Eileen attended secondary school at the College of Arts and Crafts in Bradford, England. She enjoyed sports and took part in swimming, diving, cross country and gymnastics during her school years. Eileen was a veteran of WWII. In 1942, at the age of seventeen she joined The Royal Observer Corp. in York, England and served until the end of the war. Eileen plotted incoming and outgoing allied and enemy planes and was trained to visually identify them when necessary. In March 1948, Eileen sailed to Canada on the Aquitania, landed at Pier 21 in Halifax and then proceeded by train to Boisetown, NB to visit her twin sister. It was here that Eileen met Horatio (Raysh) Murray and they were married in Doaktown, New Brunswick on December 15, 1949. Last December Raysh and Eileen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Eileen was an active member of her community. She was involved with the Doaktown United Church Women, the Atlantic Salmon Museum and the Home and School Association. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years at St. Thomas United Church and also served as the Sunday School Secretary Treasurer. Eileen will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Horatio Murray; her four sons and their families, Kenneth and Shirley of Grande Prairie, AB, Keith and Andrea of Stony Plain, AB, Stuart and Lora-Lee of Quesnel, BC, and Donald and Angela of Fredericton, NB. Eileen loved her grand-children, Barbara (Marcus), Brian (Gina), Heather (Ron), Daria, Jarrett, Craig, Kelly, Hailey, Laura (Ray) and Carolyn (Alex) and her great grandson, Kallum. She is survived by her sister, Iris Horsman of Salisbury, NB and many nieces, nephews and cousins in both Canada and England. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, John and Ivy (James) Goulding, brother, Kenneth Goulding in infancy, her twin sister, May Murray and her brothers-in-law, Brian Murray and Bill Horsman. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, Fredericton, NB on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul McGrattan officiating. Interment will take place in St. Thomas United Church Cemetery, Doaktown, NB at a later date.
