Obituary of Carol LaBillois-Slocum

The passing of Carol Ann LaBillois-Slocum, wife of Erick Slocum, occurred on Friday, March 6, 2015 at her home in Nashwaak Village. Born in Boston, MA on December 11, 1953 she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Lillian (Jerome) LaBillois. Carol was a member of the Nashwaaksis Lions Club, Life time member of the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Council and she also volunteered with the National Aboriginal Indigenous Games. Carol is known to be a great advocate for native women issue and for rights/issues of Aboriginal People. In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by her son, Brian Wortman (Suzanne) of Durham Bridge, NB; daughters, Stephanie Bolger (Andrew) of Durham Bridge, NB, Holly Wortman of Oromocto, NB and Marianne Wortman (Darryl) of Saskatchewan; brothers, George (Beth), Larry (Marilyn), Bradley (Lynn), Barry, James, and John (Rachel) LaBillois; sisters, Mona Spann (Billy), Brenda Seeley (Lester), Edith LaBillois, Theresa Seeley, and Susan LaBillois; grandchildren, Shaniah, Marissa, Jack and Charlie; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her infant child, Lori-Ann; and brother Moise LaBillois. Visitation will take place Monday, March 09, 2015 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 11 am with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Native Women’s Association of Canada.
