Obituary of Gunther Seyffarth

SEYFFARTH, Gunther Max Ferdinand Age 88, of Middle Sackville, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2015, in Shannex Parkland Nursing Home, Fredericton. He was the son of the late Margarethe Maria Auguste (Meincke) Seyffarth and Max Hermann Wilhelm Ernst Paul Seyffarth of Pinneberg (Scheswig-Holstein, Germany) and is survived by his wife, Renate Alwine Maria (Brand); daughter Barbara Margareta Sophia; son Jens-Peter (Karen) and grandchildren Daniel Alexander and Natasha Arielle. Gunther was a German Second World War Veteran and POW survivor. After the war, Gunther trained as a master electrician working in the shipyards of Hamburg and then spent nine years seeing the world in the merchant navy. In 1963, he became a Canadian Citizen while working for Fairey Aviation (now IMP group). Until his retirement in 1992, Gunther worked 26+ years keeping the lights on with Nova Scotia Light & Power and later Nova Scotia Power Corporation. Driven by a strong sense of community, Gunther had a long history of volunteerism serving as Trail Blazers Boys’ Club President, Avon Boat Club Treasurer, on the Electragas Credit Union Board of Directors and HRM North West Transit Advisory Committee. Gunther will always be remembered and dearly missed for his strong work ethic, pride as a Canadian, selfless dedication to family, friends and public service, as well as fund raising, conservative investment advice, music, camping, boating, travelling and helping neighbours. Special thanks to Dr. Jeff Barton, Dr. Kelsey Cameron, Bayshore Home Health, New Brunswick Extra-Mural and Shannex Parkland health care professionals for enhancing Gunther’s life and supporting his family over these past 4 years. Cremation has taken place and his internment will take place in Oakridge Memorial Gardens (Sackville) at a later date (summer 2015). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
