Life Legacy
The passing of Colin Avard Illsley of Gagetown, NB, occurred on Friday January 16, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Surrounded by love and with the love of his life Colin passed away quietly and with dignity. Colin was the husband of Carla (Thibault) Neadow-Illsley. Born on Dec. 6, 1947 in Truro, NS he was the son of the late Glenn and Marjorie (Locke) Illsley. Colin was a devoted teacher and began teaching in Dorchester in 1969. A 33 year teaching career with former School District 17, Colin was dedicated to every student and his wish for them was nothing short of success and happiness. Colin loved to golf and frequented Mactaquac Golf Course and Hartland Golf Course from the time golfing season started until it ended. Colin was Governor of Mactaquac Golf Course for several years, when not on the golf course he could be found fishing with his best fishing buddies Pat, John, Kevin and Doug , great fishermen they were but no fish were ever caught. Colin loved bowling or square dancing and was an avid card player spending countless hours with his friends at the Elks Club.
A former Councilor and Mayor for the Village of Gagetown, Colin could be found working for the betterment of the Village. A former Exalted Ruler, Treasurer and proud member of the Fredericton ELKS Club Colin was involved with the organization for the past 33.8 years. Colin was past Present of the Gagetown Square Dance Club and served his teaching colleagues well as representing them as their Local President for the NBTA.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Tamara Neadow of Burton, NB, Lecia Colbourne (Matthew) of Petawawa, ON; and his son, Mark Neadow of Burton, NB. He was blessed with two gorgeous granddaughters Reina and Lennox who referred to him as Grampy Colin, They were the the light of his life. Colin is survived by his sisters Lynette Illsley of Dorchester, NB, Janice Garrity (Nev) of Sackville, NB, Beverly Illsley of Dorchester, NB, and Sandra Daigle (Paul) of Nauwigewauk, NB; brothers, Glenn Illsley (Grace) of Brookfield, NS, Allison Illsley (June) of Saltsprings, N.S., Ivan Illsley (Kathy) of Sackville, NB and Cyrus Illsley (Paula) of Hilden, N.S. Fifteen nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Celebration of his Life will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Reception will follow at the Elks Club from 4-7 at 218 Brunswick St. For those who wish remembrances may be made to the Elks Club Deaf Camp, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association or an organization of the donor’s choice.
