Life Legacy
The death of Vance W. “Sonny” Wilson of Hamtown Corner, NB occurred on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, NB, following a lengthy period of failing health. Born in North Tay, NB on March 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry Egan and Daisy Pearl (Wilkins) Wilson.
Vance is survived by his two sons, Gregory and Dennis, and his only daughter, Lynette; one sister, Edith Wilson; four brothers, Charles (Ruth) Wilson, Ronald (Pat) Wilson and Rodney (Judy) Wilson all of Fredericton, NB and Lewis (Joan) Wilson of Kingsley, NB.
Vance was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Rose “Kaye” Wilson; sister, Floris Elaine Saunders and husband, Byron; brother, Leslie Howard Wilson and wife, Jean; sister, Shirley Agnes Brooks and husband, James.
Mr. Wilson served overseas during World War II and ultimately retired from the Canadian Armed Forces following a career encompassing twenty-five years. He, Kaye and family took up residence on the Thomas farm at Hamtown Corner where they spent much of their time raising polled Herefords although both of them continued to work “in town”, he at the Motor Vehicle Division, Fredericton and she at the Fredericton branch of Simpson Sears.
Vance was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and the flies he tied were simply to die for. Most of all, however, he was a great family man who found great joy in a huge pot luck supper followed by an evening of cards. He will be sorely missed!
