Obituary of Harvey Munn

At the age of 94, Dad passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, on November 29, 2014. Born on December 10th, 1919, he was the son of the late Earle and Sadie (Scott) Munn. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Zona (Norrad); sisters, Merle Black and Audrey Abernathy; brothers, Raymond, Scott, Hershell, Delbert and Vaughn; and daughter-in-law, Glenna (McKay). He is survived by his children Harvey Jr., Cindy (Roger Mitchell), Nick, Tony (Diane), Andy (Colleen), Rosie (Bernie Lyons) Katie (Kevin MacRae), Mike (Debbie), Ivan (Brenda) and Chanso (Rachel) as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Besides his children and their families, he is survived by sisters Addie (Norrad), Marguerite (Sterling Calhoun) and Loretta (Wilson Peacock) and several nieces and nephews. During his duty to our country, he was a member of the North Shore Regiment during WWII. He served as a Military Police Officer on the escort boats for the convoys overseas between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland then Newfoundland to England. He served under Her Majesty’s Royal British Army/Navy for part of his duty. While stationed in Newfoundland, he witnessed the Great Fire in St. Johns which claimed the lives of a number of his comrades. He was assigned control of the trains coming out of Montreal, Quebec, to ensure safe arrival of the soldiers coming home. After the war he worked as a guide for the Rocky Brook Camps until he became a Warden for the Federal Dept. of Fisheries in August, 1954. He retired in November 1984 after 30 years of service. He held a Life Membership (70 years) at Royal Canadian Legion Normandy Branch #78, Boiestown. He supported and was involved with a number of organizations within his community over the years. He had a great passion for life in general. He enjoyed the outdoors through fishing, trapping, working in the woods and gardening. He did all these things while supporting his family. He would have given anyone of us the shirt off his back had we asked. He will be deeply missed by all of us left behind. Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Church, Route 8, New Bandon, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Monday, Dec 1st, 2014. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014, at 2 pm at the church with Rev. Roger Mitchell officiating. Interment will take place in the Parkers Ridge Cemetery followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Normandy Br. #78, Boiestown.
