Obituary of Vernon Wilkins

The passing of Vernon Gerald Wilkins of Cardigan, NB, husband of Sarah (Watson) Wilkins, occurred on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at his home with family at his side. Vernon was born on Dec. 9, 1922 in North Tay, NB to the late Austin and Viva (Griffith) Wilkins. Vernon was a veteran of WW II enlisting with the Carleton and York regiment in April 1942. Vernon was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion Beaverbrook Branch #80 and life member of Smith L.O.L 144; he was a dedicated member of North Cardigan United Church. Vernon spent his early working days with the Nashwaak Pulp and Paper Company then followed his dream of dairy farming and raising his daughters in a rural farming community. Vernon loved life and lived life to the fullest. In addition to his wife of 68 years Vernon is survived by daughters, Joanne Banks (Mike), Barb Wilkins (Tonny), Geraldine Wilkins (Warren) and Wanda Humble (Terry); grandchildren, Vincent (Angela), Kenny (Vicky), Shelley (Joel), Shawna (Kip), Jennifer (Carl), Janelle (Jim), Cheryl (Mitch), Sandy (Mark), Vernon (Chantelle), Lori (Mark) and Mike; great grandchildren, Amanda (Kirk), Lacee, Sarah, Bethany, Megan, Alissa, Tristan, Kylee, Dean, Patrick, Brooke, Dylan, Logan, Cameron, Owen, Mason, Layne, Chloe, Anna, Abigail; great great grandson, Camden; along with several very special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Vernon was predeceased by granddaughter, Teri Dawn Humble; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Joanne Banks; sisters, Pauline Watson and Florence Thomas. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, November 10, 2014 from 3:30 to 7 pm, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 2-3 pm followed by a Memorial Service from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon McLeod Memorial Chapel, Wally Ellis (DLM) officiating. Members of the Smith L.O.L 144 are asked to assemble at 2:45 pm on Monday for a Tribute Service; Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Beaverbrook Branch # 80 are asked to assemble at 3:15 on Monday for a Tribute Service. Following the Memorial Service, interment will take place in the Stirling United Church Cemetery, Tay Creek. No flowers please, by request of family, remembrances may be made to the Stirling United Church Cemetery Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
