Obituary of Arthur Slater

The passing of Arthur Murray Slater of Fredericton, NB, husband of Connie (Oliver) Slater, occurred on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Woodstock, NB on January 23, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Bessie (Dickinson) Slater. Arthur was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Fredericton. He was a fireman with CP Rail and also owned and operated Slater’s Flower Shop. In addition to his wife, Arthur is survived by his daughters, Janet Glenn (Dale) of Quispamsis, NB and Kathryn Stewart of Edmonton, AB; sons, Robert Slater (Susan) of Chipman, NB and Jonathan Slater of Fredericton, NB; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Bartlett of Woodstock, NB and Minnie Maguire of Sussex, NB; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his son, Michael; sister, Mary Anne Doherty; half sisters, Elizabeth Slater and Jean Harding; half brother, Wilber Slater; brother in laws, Beverly Bartlett and Ivan Maguire. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 10 am from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel with Rev. Doug Adamson officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be his grandsons, Benjamin, Daniel and Scott Stewart, Leslie Glenn, Nathan Slater and nephew, Roy Harding. Interment will take place in Red Bank Cemetery, Chipman, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
