Obituary of Margaret McLaughlin

Marg passed away suddenly at her home in Barker’s Point on Monday, October 20, 2014. Born in Nashwaaksis on November 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Alice (Grant) Westall. She was survived by her daughter, Nancy Kitt of Harvey; her son, David (Ellie) of Fredericton; granddaughter, Melanie (Darrell) Grant of Harvey Station; great-grandsons, Ben and Jaydon; brothers, Ernie of Quebec, Gordon and Donald, both of Fredericton. In addition to her parents, Marg was predeceased by Ross McLaughlin, her husband of 64 ½ years; grandson, Marshall Kitt; brothers, Lloyd, Arnold and Harold. Marg worked at Harvey Studios as a film developer and tinter for three years before she was married in February 1948 at age 22. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the “stay at home” mom who wore many hats in the household. She was more than the “chief cook and bottle washer”. She was a seamstress who used to make clothes, curtains and quilts. She was a knitter who used to provide all of us with a new heavy sweater and mittens every fall. She was a baker who made all her bread, cookies, pies and doughnuts from scratch. Our pantry always had a variety of mustard pickles, chow, cranberry sauce, jam and mince meat, all homemade. She was an artist and many of her painting adorn our walls. Marg was also a traveller. She and Ross have been to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, every Canadian Province, Hawaii, Alaska and many other US States. A Memorial Service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Peter Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
