Obituary of J. Eleanor MacLeod
The passing of J. Eleanor MacLeod of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Thomas G. MacLeod occurred on Friday, September 26, 2014, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital Fredericton, NB. Born on May 8, 1932 in Morell, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Maud (Dingwell) Coffin. Eleanor worked at CIBC for 19 years. She and her husband Tom then founded York Funeral Home in 1979 where they worked side by side. Eleanor was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church, and at former churches she was a UCW member, leader of CGIT, and a Sunday school teacher. She was a past president of the Nashwaaksis Lionettes. She enjoyed doing many forms of needlepoint, loved to camp and especially loved to spend time with family.
Eleanor is survived by two sons, Jim MacLeod (Bonnie) of Douglas and Scott MacLeod (Suzanne Turmel) of Fredericton; two daughters, Lorraine Corey (Dave) of New Zion and Lynne Erickson (Carl) of Fredericton; 10 grandchildren, Monica, Melissa, Tommy (Chelsee), Kayla, Doug, Harmony, Jodie (Dustin), Kelsey, Travis and Conor; two great grandchildren, Ava and Thomas; brother Edward (Donna) Coffin of Morell, PEI; twin sister Lorraine Coffin of Charlottetown, PEI; sister-in-law Phyllis Coffin of Morell, PEI; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Eleanor is predeceased by her son, T. Gordon MacLeod, infant granddaughter, Ericka Erickson, brother, Preston, and sister, Miriam (Doug) Hyslop.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, September 29, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Nashwaaksis Lionettes will have a memorial service Monday at 7 pm. Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. J.D. Kennedy officiating; with a reception to follow in the church hall.
Pallbearers for the service will be: Carl, Travis and Conor Erickson, Tommy and Doug MacLeod, and Dave Corey.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. Brian MacKinnon, Don Stevenson, Ron Evans, Ira Corkum, Junior Harding, Martin Fullarton, Fenton Doak, George Fawcett, Glenwood Dorcus, Bill Randall, Jeannie Walton-Wilson, Lloyd Hetherington, Walter Randall.
Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Portage Atlantic (substance abuse rehabilitation centre), Nashwaaksis United Church “Memorial Fund” and donors choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
