Obituary of David Rickard

The passing of David Frederick Rickard of Barker’s Point, NB, loving partner of Eleanore Burpee, occurred on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on September 28, 1937 in Barker’s Point, NB, he was the son of the late Russell and Fern (Brown) Rickard. He worked for NB Power for 38 years, retiring in 1992. David was a devoted partner, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. David’s most cherished moments were spending time with his family. “Bup” as he was known to his grandchildren was always there at every family gathering, birthdays, weddings, graduations and enjoyed every minute he was there. He loved to laugh and have fun and enjoyed life to the fullest. Some of his best times spent were at The Lake where he would go in the Spring and stay until the Fall. He will be in many friends and family members’ memories of the Lake where it will not be the same without seeing him going in his boat, playing horseshoes or just hanging out with everyone. When the leaves started to change his next favourite place to go was the Portobello Camp that he built with Jim and Bobby Elliott when they were teenagers. He loved to take his four wheeler down the tracks to his camp and loved it even more when his boys where there with him. David was a good teacher, mentor and friend to those who knew him. Bup will truly be missed. In addition to Eleanore, David is survived by his children, Tim Rickard (Kim) of Noonan, NB, Davey Rickard (Janice) of Charter’s Settlement, NB and Tony Rickard (Roxane) of Lower St. Mary’s, NB; grandchildren, Dan (Courtney), Kathleen, Jamie, Alana (Cory), Jill (Brendan) and Lisa; great grandchildren, Marlee, Renna, Brody, Colby, Dave and Rose; one brother, Richard Rickard (Hazel) of Riverview, NB, brothers in law, Ralph Constable and Gerry Stafford (Ann) and special niece Judy Munn (Gerry) of Saint John, NB; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Eleanore’s children, David McCabe (Nancy), Kathy Stapleton (Bruce) and her grandchildren, Jason, Patrick, Andrew and Michael and by Eleanore’s mother, Phyllis Burpee. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of more than forty years, Patsy Rickard; his brothers, Allan and Ronald; sisters, Mary and Caroline and step brother, James Davidson (Evelyn). Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 3-7 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Dan Rickard, Jamie Rickard, Brent Rickard, Mark Cornford, David Clark and Raymond Davidson. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery.
