Obituary of Galen Hovey

The passing of Galen Robert Hovey of Porter Cove, NB, husband of Kathleen (Knight) Hovey, occurred on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 2, 1935 in Porter Cove, NB, he was the son of the late Everett H. and Alice (MacKay) Hovey. Galen was a woodsworker, fishing guide and a commercial lobster fisherman out of Grand Manan. In addition to his wife, Galen is survived by his daughter, Janet Curtis (Jeffrey) of Saint John, NB; step daughter, Linda Byers of Saint John, NB; step son, Paul Seelye (Brenda) of Saint John, NB; grandchildren, Brant Seelye, Scott Seelye, Richard Byers Jr., John Byers, Jason Seelye, James Seelye and Robert DeSylva; several great grandchildren; sisters, Queenie Copeland of Boiestown, NB and Sharon Hovey of Fredericton, NB and half sister, Juanita Johnston of Yukon; brothers, Everett Hovey (Ruby) of Porter Cove, NB, Donald Hovey (Claudette) of Ontario and half brother, Frederick Law (Audrey) of Ontario; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Fernand Hovey; sisters, Mary Larson, Isabelle McNeish, Neva Conroy (Ryan) and Verda Chaisson; step son, Norman Seelye. Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 1, 2014 at 2 pm with Pastor Rick Bruce officiating. Reception will follow at Ludlow Hall. Interment will take place in Ludlow United Baptist Cemetery at a later date.
