Obituary of Robert Maston

The passing of Robert “Bob” Leroy Maston of Fredericton, NB, husband of Joyce (Murray) Maston, occurred on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 21, 1953 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of Allison “Sonny” and Jean (Johnson) Maston. Bob worked as the Site Manager of Brookside Stow-It-All. Growing up Bob was very active in sports; playing in various hockey leagues, baseball and more recently developed a love for the game of golf. He also enjoyed reading, especially biographies. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob is survived by his son, Scott (Heather Gass) Westport, NS; daughter, Alicia (Kent Hunter) of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Violet and Jack; sister, Terry (Ron St. Amour) of Fredericton, NB; brother, Richard (Debbie) of Rusagonis, NB; sisters in law, Elizabeth Hoare of British Columbia and Sheila O’Neill (Keith) of Ontario; brothers in law, Albert (Margaret), Arnold (Marlene), Leo (Maureen) and Paul (Elizabeth) all of Fredericton, NB; several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his in laws, Murdock and Daisy Murray; brothers in law, Leslie, Ronnie, Ivan and Allen. Bob was a people person. In social gatherings, everyone would gravitate to his magnetic smile and storytelling. Those who knew Bob would laugh and engage in endless conversation with him. He could tell never ending stories that would hold the audience’s attention. Bob’s comedic side would eventually shine through. One of his favourite quotes to people who were late paying their storage fees was, “Your last name must be crime because crime doesn't pay.” Bob’s family meant the world to him and he would do anything for them. His love and respect for family was evident. Bob boasted about his family and praised them constantly for their accomplishments. His grandchildren, Violet and Jack, warmed his soul. He spent countless hours playing with them. He was a “BIG KID” at heart. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Fredericton Golf Club on Monday, August 25, 2014 from 5:30-8:30 pm. A Private Graveside Service will take place at Hermitage Cemetery with Father John Jennings as celebrant. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
