Obituary of Richard Carr

Richard Albert Carr born on October 6, 1944 in Alliston, ON and passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in Bangor, ME. Richard was a graduate of Fredericton High School and received his Bachelor of Arts (History) in 1970 and a Bachelor of Education in 1972 from St. Thomas University and Master of Education in 1981 from the University of New Brunswick. In 1972, Richard enrolled in the First Battalion RNBR (Carleton York) as an Infantry Officer and served in various positions such as Battalion Quarter Master, Adjutant and 2IC of B Company. In 1989 he joined The Regional Emergency Government Headquarters in Fredericton, NB and transferred to Western NB Militia District as a Public Affairs Officer in 1990. In 1996, he transferred to Cadet Instructor Cadre and became Commanding Officer of 242 RCACC in Fredericton. In 2000, he transferred to 2550 RCACC in Harvey and assumed command until September 2003. That same year, he was appointed Area Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer (ACICO) for NB and in October appointed acting Area Cadet Officer (ACO) Land for NB and PEI and served until position was filled. He served at Argonaut Cadet Training Center in CFB Gagetown. He held the positions of Unit Human Rights Officer, Officer Commanding G Company and DCO of Argonaut. January 2004, Richard (LCOL) was appointed Commanding Officer of Agonaut and held the position for four years. Richard was involved in politics and ran for MLA in York North in 1978. He was a Teacher and Guidance Counselor at Harold Peterson Junior High in Oromocto, NB for 30 years, retiring in June 2000. He spent the last six years working part time at Home Hardware in Nashwaaksis. Richard truly was a jack of all trades, a licensed pilot and ham radio operator going under the call sign VE9CO. He was actively involved with the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Nashwaaksis, as a Lay Reader for the church and the DECH for many years and served in various aspects of the church. He was also actively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4. Richard and Charlotte enjoyed many years of traveling together to the Caribbean, Britain and spent many winters in Florida. Richard is survived by his soul mate, best friend and loving wife of 48 years, Charlotte (Agnew) Carr; daughter, Natalie Carr Mallet; son, Andrew Carr (Heidi Neales); grandchildren, Kaleb and Zoe Mallet and Grayson Carr; brother, Lewis Carr (Sharon); sisters, Carole Rankine and Marilyn Nicholson (Allison); several nieces and nephews; his favourite canine companion, Nigel. He was predeceased by his parents, Earle and Violet (Barber) Carr; sister, Mavis Douglass; daughter, Sherri Lynn Carr and grandson, Phillip Carr. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Bill MacMullin officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
