Obituary of Donald MacTavish
It is with profound sadness that the family of Donald Charles MacTavish announces his death on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Donnie was born in Fredericton, NB on December 7, 1954 to Betty MacTavish-Prime and the late Charlie MacTavish. Donnie was a retired foreman from NB Power, where he worked for over 33 years. He was an avid sportsman and excelled at hockey and baseball, but above all he loved to fish, travel the back roads of New Brunswick and spend time at his camp. Donnie was devoted to his family and never missed an opportunity to give big hugs.
In addition to his mother and step father, Don Prime, he is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Emma-Mae at home and Jill Lorenz (Tyler); grandchildren, Brooklyn and Lily of Grand Prairie, AB; one son, Ben Hoyt of Fredericton, NB; he also leaves behind one sister, Kathy (Gerry) McBride; brothers, Tim (Jane), Andy (Susan) and Scotty (Debbie); aunt and uncle, Boyd and Helen MacTavish; aunt, Shirley Leachman; mother in law, Lilly Bryson; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a wide circle of friends.
Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 2 pm with Father Kevin Stockhall officiating. Honourary Pallbearers will be his three brothers; cousin, Stephen Leachman; Mike Reid and Peter Harten. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Chalmers Hospital Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Debra Gowan for her wonderful care and compassion and all the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit and 3SW as well as Dr. Andrea Garland, Dr. John Beal, Dr. Brian MacKinnon and all the staff of the DECRH.
