Obituary of Alden Jones
With heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Alden Douglas Jones of Nashwaak Village, NB, husband of Mary (Sutherland) McAloon-Jones, which occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Old Mill Camp Ground, Lutes Mountain, NB. Born on April 22, 1941 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Ernest Roy of Fredericton and Alice Hilda (Greer) Jones of Sheffield.
Alden enjoyed a fulfilling 33 year career with the Fredericton City Police Force from which he retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1996. Following retirement he kept himself busy tinkering in his garage, working on his ‘Big Red’ tractor, hunting and fishing and watching with pride as his family has continued to grow, welcoming many grandchildren. In recent years he and Mary developed a great love of camping and traveling to the many blue grass festivals around the province along with their caravan of friends.
In addition to his wife, Alden is survived by his children; Douglas Jones (Jayne), Janice MacFarlane (Donald) and Brian Jones (Shawnee Main); grandchildren, Bradley, Adam and Sarah Jones, Benjamin and Emma MacFarlane, Aaron and Anna Jones and Graeson Main; step children, Judy McAloon (Jim), Janet McElman (Karl), Pam Seeley (Rod), Brian McAloon (Marlene) and Michelle O’Hara (Tim); step grandchildren, Colin, Shelby and Karmen, Katie, Amanda (Andrew), Rosie, Jasmine and Max, Matthew (Melissa) Strider and Asher, Emily, Rikki and Karlie, Riley, Zachary and Chloe; sister, Doris Frye; brother, Roy Jones (Elaine); nieces, Pam Crowell (Peter) and Kim Jones (Alex Weller); great nieces, Dara and Ellen Crowell and Sophia Weller; brothers and sisters in-law, Bernice O’Keefe, Simon Colford (Lorna), Vincent Colford (Peggy), Robert Colford (Myrtle), Walter Merrill, Peter Shewciw, Lavina- Jean Colford, Margaret Hersey (Frank), Gladys Washburn, Jim Sutherland (Joan), Ben Sutherland (Leona), Paul Sutherland (Mary), Gene Colford (Elaine) and Pat Sutherland.
Besides his parents, Alden was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Louise Jones; step son, Danny McAloon; sister, Glenna Hickey; brothers and sisters in-law, Mary Colford, Elizabeth (Betty) and Charles Robichaud, Hilda Merrill, Esther Shewciw, Burton Colford, Bernard Colford, John Colford, Michael O’Keefe, Sherman Colford, Peter Sutherland and Denis Washburn.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 11 am with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Interment will take place in Hermitage Cemetery.
