Obituary of Cecil Hamilton

The passing of Cecil Allen Hamilton of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Jessie Lavina (Cameron) Hamilton occurred on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Parkland Shannex- Thomas Hall. Born on March 15, 1920 in Penniac, NB, he was the son of the late Robert and Pearl (Walker) Hamilton. Cecil served in WWII with the Carleton York Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Marysville Branch #15. He retired as a construction supervisor with the Provincial Department of Education. He was a member of the Marysville United Church; a past member of the choir; he was on the Board of Trustees and Cemetery Committee and also a member of the I.O.O.F; Past P.G. and P.C.P. He was one of the founding members of the Barker′s Point Fire Department and also became Chief in 1962. Cecil was a successful baseball pitcher with the “Marysville Maroons”, “Marysville Royals” and the “Devon Tigers’. Cecil was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughter, Eleanor Watson of Fredericton, NB; son, Douglas Paul Hamilton (Sharon) of Fredericton, NB; four grandchildren, Steven Fraser (Juanita), Derek Hamilton (Johanna), Mark Fraser (Jocelyne) and Paula Sharp (Dave); great grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Jakob, Tanner, Cash and Knox; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sisters, Edith Hamilton, Helen Pond (Hugh) and Connie Arnold (John) and brother, Gerald Hamilton. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Malcolm Campbell officiating. Interment will take place in Alexander Gibson Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Marysville United Church Building Fund or the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
