Obituary of James Gerald Fleming

Fleming, James Gerald With sadness, the family of James Gerald Fleming announces his death on April 21, 2014 at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Gerald was born in Saint John, NB on January 7, 1927, the second child of Dr. Louis and Nora (Brown) Fleming. Following the death of his mother, Gerald became the son of chosen parents James and Laura McEncrowe of Shediac, NB. Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara (McAllister), children Dr. Ann (John) Collins, Jim (Dorine), Grant (Jacques Webster), Dr. Ian Fleming, Paul, Michael, and Mary. He is also survived by his grandchildren Josh, Jessica (Troy McIntyre), Julia Collins, and Natalie Fleming, his loving sister-in-law Shirley Creamer, and several nieces and nephews. Gerald is predeceased by his daughter Jane Fleming (2011), brother Paul, and sisters Noreen McQueen and Elizabeth Boyle. Gerald retired from the Federal Government of Canada in 1988 and spent his retirement years tending his flowers and pets, managing the local Meals on Wheels program, organizing the annual St. Joachim’s chicken barbeque, participating in the Books on Wheels initiative, and contributing his time to St. Joachim’s Parish Council. Gerald had a strong appetite for knowledge, spending hours, on a daily basis, reading about many subjects and watching political and news programming. Gerald was a loving and kind person, and contributed to many charities. He possessed a strong faith in God and an unwavering commitment to his family. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. Andrea Hickey for her many years of care provided to Gerry. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Boiestown, NB from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11am with Fathers Joseph Okoko and Vincent Donovan as co-celebrants.
