Obituary of Clarence Forbes

Clarence MacDonald Forbes passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital April 12th, 2014 after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Portage, New Brunswick, April 3rd, 1926; Clarence was the ninth of ten children to the late Angus and Mabel Forbes. Clarence is survived by two sons, Doug (Marlene) of Douglas, Terry (Sue Beaumont) of Alberta, and one daughter, Beth (Linden) Fenety of New Maryland; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Kyle, Chelsea, Tamsin, and Tess Forbes, Justin, Josh, and Chantal Fenety; one sister, Edith Cameron of Fredericton; one brother, Ralph (Myrtle) of Moncton, and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Judith-Ann and his beloved wife, Winona; brothers, Murray, Stanley, Sandy, Harold, Shirley, and sisters, Sadie, and Elizabeth. Clarence joined the army as a teenager and served in the Second World War before returning to Fredericton to attend Forest Ranger School. He then worked for J.D. Irving Ltd for a few years before starting his own Pulpwood Broker Business, which he operated for forty years before retiring to travel throughout Canada and the United States with the love of his life, Winona, and their motorhome. He loved to attend all his grandchildren’s sporting events and functions, as well as spending time with his many friends at local coffee shops. Even after retirement he continued to keep busy and entertained with his son, Doug’s, construction business. We extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Gordon MacDonald, Dr. Russell Gowan, Dr. Debra Gowan, and the nurses and student nurses in the Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and care during his time there. Although there will be no visitation, friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service and reception, which will be held on Wednesday, April 16th, at 3 pm at the Nashwaaksis United Church with Rev. J. D. Kennedy and Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Hospice Fredericton (472-8185) or the charity of donor’s choice.
