Obituary of Mary Goodine

Today the world is a little grayer and the sun shines a little less brightly because today we start a lifetime without you, a loving wife, a fantastic mother and an extremely proud grandmother and great grandmother, Mary Ellen Goodine. She was one of the significant rocks in our family, the one who always tried to do what was right and keep us all on the straight path. After a long and arduous fight with the debilitating disease of Alzheimer’s she has been called home on April 6, 2014. Born on February 2, 1940 in Fredericton, NB she was the daughter of the late Denys and Ethel (Wright) McKay. She was also predeceased by a grandson, David and sister, Hazel. Mary Ellen will be sorrowfully missed by her husband Brian of 57 years who faithfully spent his days visiting with his wife over the past 4 ½ years when she was no longer able to be in their residence. Also leaving to mourn are her children, Joanne, Leo (Marcia), Faith (Mike), Vanda (Dale), Kim (Chris) and Chris; special friend Kevin; her ten grandchildren, Shawn (Pam), Miranda (Jake), Courtenay (Joel), Nicholas, Lucas, Taylor, Dustin, Montana, Alicia, Sara; her three great grandchildren, who often made her smile even as the end grew nearer, Tanner, Brooklynn and Josie; sisters, Linda (George) and Bunny (Roy); brother, Bev; she also leaves behind nieces, nephews and friends. In her earlier years she was a full time mother but as years progressed she decided to spread her wings and worked as a cook in a couple of restaurants before working nearly 15 years at the Brunswick Street Jail where others got to taste the fantastic food we took for granted. She was a member of St. Anne’s Church and early years of the CWL. Mary Ellen enjoyed country music, her flower gardens, crossword puzzles, and she was one of the best knitters. There was nothing she liked better than to gather with her kids and grandchildren for home cooked meals or travel when the girls took her on shopping trips for lots of laughs and fun. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, where visitation will be on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 5-8 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Newmarket, NB on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
