Obituary of Ernest Jones

The passing of Ernest Amos Jones of Fredericton, NB, husband of Helen (Blois) Jones occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 2, 1938 in Coldstream, NB, he was the son of the late Frederick and Helen (Cook) Jones. Ernest worked for NB Tel for 38 years as a phone technician. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and traveling. He loved riding his motorcycle, was a whiz with computers and a great handyman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Kelley Thompson (Randy) of Saint John, NB and Kathy Ames (Arthur) of Mactaquac, NB and their mother, Elizabeth Beveridge of Saint John, NB; step daughters, Debby Blakely (Guy) of Buck Creek, AB and Wanda Morley (Mark) of Victoria, BC; chosen daughter, Bonni Hay-Whynot (Tim) of Saint John, NB; step sons, Tim Quackenbush (Karen) and Tony Quackenbush (Charlene) both of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Jeremy Jones-Ames (Laura) of Mactaquac, NB; Erin Evans (Mark), Emily Thompson and Dana Thompson all of Saint John, NB; step grandchildren, Jamie Quackenbush and Dale Quackenbush (Amanda) both of Fredericton, NB; Marsha Scheller of Victoria, BC, Carrie Hawkins of Saint Joseph, MI, USA, Alicia Morley of Victoria, BC, Jeremy Bertin of Edmonton, AB, Joshua Bertin of Lethbridge, AB and Stephanie Blakely of Miramichi, NB; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Rafuse of Edmonton, AB, Vicky Kelly, Wonita Jones (Plemon) and Wilma Butler (Barry) and brothers, Dwayne (Linda), Vernon and Larry all of Fredericton, NB, Blair (Dawn) of Keswick, NB and Jack of Greenwood, NS; sisters in law, Carolyn Jones of Fredericton, NB, Audrey Jones of Middle Hainesville, NB and Marlene Mitchell (Cecil) of Summerside, PE; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Fred “Alton”, Sheldon and Harry. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 1-2 pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Ridgeview Cemetery, Caverhill Road, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Fredericton SPCA, IWK, Chalmers Foundation – Palliative Care Unit or the charity of the donor’s choice.
