I am so sorry to hear of Wally's passing. Wally was our best man when his distant cousin, Don, and I got married 20 years ago - said he wouldn't miss it for the world! Wally and Don looked so much alike that people have mistaken photos of one for photos of the other. He will be greatly missed by many people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May God bring you through this loss to find peace on the other side.

I worked with Wally for about two years at Canada Customs in Woodstock. Always on the night shift, and Wally insisted I "rest" a couple of hours before driving home to Perth Andover in the morning. Wally always had a fresh pot of coffee on when I was done "resting". I will miss him. Great friend. Jim

I am sorry to hear about Wally. I have fond memories of interacting with him through the historical society and the library. As a student interested in local history & geneaolgy Wally and I certainly had lots to talk about! One of my favourite memories was when Dalton Camp's family donated his personal collection to LP Fisher, and Wally and I went through all of the books. We had a great time looking at the inscriptions & signatures. The kindness he showed me will not be forgotten!

It was a real pleasure whenever Wally came into the Connell House where I was the General Contractor who looked after the restoration & renovation of the project. Wally always had some insight into what we were doing at the time, and always taking pictures to record the progress. A very kind and gentle soul who will be missed. It was a pleasure meeting, and working with you Wally.

In so many varied ways, Wally, Honourary Life Member, made an absolutely enormous contribution to the Carleton County Historical Society over many years. He created and maintained the Society website; managed much of our artifact & archive collections, appraised acquisitions & donations; conducted invaluable research for the Connell House Restoration Project as part of the Building Committee, mentored and assisted our staff & summer students and much, much more. A truly brilliant, expansive mind, a selfless spirit and a stalwart friend.
His influence will long endure.

My sympathy in the loss of your husband, father, grandfather. Wally was a knowledgeable historian and someone I knew would always have the answer to any question about history. I had many enjoyable chats with Wally as he walked his dog when living in Woodstock. He will be missed.
