Obituary of John Gibson

John passed away suddenly, at his well loved Douglas home, on Saturday, January 11, 2014. John was born on May 3, 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family, John is survived by his wife, Florence (Witherell) Gibson; sisters in law, Marjorie Price of Chipman, NB and Jackie Witherell of Espanola, ON; brother in law, Evalt Von Bargen of Manitoulin Island, ON. He was also the most loved uncle of Kathryn Pickard of Moncton, NB and Jeffrey Price of Blissfield, NB; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Ontario and Scotland. In Scotland, John worked as a machinist, also in the police force and after WWII, he served in the R.A.F. When John came to Canada he worked for many years for the Steel Company in Hamilton, ON; after retiring from the steel mill, John and Florence moved to Douglas. In keeping with John’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no visitation and funeral. John’s ashes will be interred in Ford Hollow Cemetery, Blissfield, NB in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances can be made in John’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
