Mario Jose Espejo passed away peacefully on January 5, 2014 in Fredericton, New Brunswick after having a stroke that sent him into coma. He was with his loving wife, Lia, and friends when he passed. Mario Espejo was 75 at the time of his passing. He was born in Belize (formerly British Honduras) on April 13, 1938 and married Lia Raquel Castillo on October 14, 1961. At the time of his marriage he worked as a Customs Broker in Belize City. From this marriage came three children, Mario Jr., Ana, Eduardo (Lalo). When the opportunity arose to come to Canada to work for Cape Construction, a company that specialized in building paper mills, he took it. This job led to places in Eastern Canada and Quebec including Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia; Chandler, Quebec and Saint John, New Brunswick. In 1980, another opportunity arose to expand his horizons further, and he accepted a role in materials management with SNC, Canada’s largest engineering and construction contractor. This opportunity led to world travel and projects in Argentina, Saudi Arabia, India, Romania, China and Venezuela. During this time he travelled the world with his wife at his side. He then moved to Merida, Mexico in 1996, where he did a few more jobs before eventually retiring there. He could be found puttering around the market in Santa Ana on his daily errands. In December 2012 he and his wife moved to Fredericton to live with their daughter. Mario is survived by his wife Lia, his children, Mario (Samantha), living in Brisbane, Australia, Ana (Don), living in Fredericton, New Brunswick and Lalo, living in Vancouver, British Columbia.
