Obituary of Joyce Bruce
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Bruce (O'Donnell) on Thursday, December 26, 2013. She passed away peacefully at the Dr Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. Joyce was the beloved wife of Darrell Bruce who died in 1995 and whose memory she cherished all these years.
She was the adored mother of Ronald (Lynn), Kevin, Shelley and Kirk and a wonderful grandmother to Craig, Chris, Marc (Nicole), Brad and Charlene and great grandmother to Lennon.
Born on December 20, 1924 in Carrolls Crossing, NB, she was the daughter of the late Baden O’Donnell Sr. and Irene (Carroll) O’Donnell. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Moyra Francis and her brother, Baden O'Donnell Jr.; sister in law, Marjorie O’Donnell; brother in law, George Shaw. She is survived by her three sisters, Winnifed Shaw, Deedee Rayner (Seifert “Bud”) and Marilyn Todd and her two brothers, Mac O’Donnell (Laura) and Boyd O’Donnell and sister in law, Mary O’Donnell, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church. While raising her family, Joyce worked for several years at Urquhart's IGA and the Nashwaaksis Bowl-a-Drome. Her kindness and compassion led her to many years of volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, Chimo Help Center, and York Manor Auxiliary. Joyce touched and enriched the lives of so many people during her lifetime. Helping others was the abiding joy in her life, second only to her family. Joyce will forever be an example of strength and grace for all those who knew her and we will cherish our memories forever.
In keeping with Joyce's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. In the spring, there will be a burial and a "Celebration of Life" service near her childhood home in Carroll’s Crossing, NB. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
