Obituary of Johannes Leinasaar

The death of Johannes “Jack” Leinasaar, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was born and lived in Estonia until he was 16; at which time all boys 16 and older were conscripted into the invading Germany Army. He fought on the Russian Front and suffered terrible injuries which affected him his whole life. After the war he joined the 77th Engineer Battalion (Construction) of the United States Army. In 1955 he immigrated to Fredericton, NB, Canada. He was employed by Hans Phrole, H.P. Gilbey Ltd and York Steel. He retired in 1990 when his health started to deteriorate. He lived with Earl and Sandra Gilbey of Keswick Ridge, where for the first time in 64 years he had a family atmosphere in which to live, and a dog he adored. Jack will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and for bringing a smile to those he met. It is with great sorrow that the staff of Barrie’s Special Care Home say “Goodbye” to an amazing man who will remain in their hearts forever. A Graveside Service will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 2 pm from Burtts Corner Community Cemetery with Pastor Bev Jewett officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericton Shriners Transportation Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
