Obituary of Betty Doherty

With great sorrow the family of Betty Elaine Doherty announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Betty was born on March 12, 1941, in Fredericton. Betty was a devoted and much beloved wife of James “Ned” Doherty for 55 years. She was the daughter of the late Lewis & Marion (Foster) Wallace; treasured mother of Tim (Rosemarie), Deborah (John Hughes), Diane (Mike Barry) and David (Deborah). Betty will be sadly missed by all her special grandchildren, Dylan, Lee & Alan Hughes, John, Josh & Kaleigh Betty Barry, Ryan & Nicholas Doherty and chosen, Erica Reid & James Arsenault. Her reward for many years of babysitting children was to see them grow into beautiful adults and have their own children. Betty is survived by a brother & sisters, Jean Morton, Artice (David) Jenkins, Charles (Geraldine) Wallace, Marjorie Dow and Carol (Russ) Bennett; several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by brothers-in-law, Maurice Morton, Ted Doherty, Earl Dow and John Darling Sr.. The care given to Betty over a long period was exceptional by many, both in Fredericton and Halifax Hospitals. To all Doctors, Nurses, Caregivers, Extra Mural Staff and all support workers; your kindness will always be remembered. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Parish, 1 William Street on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 am with Father Bill Brennan as celebrant. Pallbearers will be all of Betty’s grandchildren. If it is your wish to donate to a charity in Betty’s memory may we suggest the IWK Children’s Hospital, which was dear to her heart, as were all young children. Interment will take place following the church service at Douglas Rural Cemetery. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
