Obituary of Helena Gillis

The passing of Helena Margaret “Lena” Gillis of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Friday, September 20, 2013 at York Care Centre. Born on April 8, 1919 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Al and Blanche (Porter) Stewart. She was a member of the All Saints Anglican Church. Lena enjoyed Bingo, reading and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Lena is survived by her son, Jack (Susan) Gillis of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Michael Gillis and Kelley Massicotte (Andre); great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Maya, Nolan, Cohen and Addison; several nieces and nephews. Lena was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Mabel and Mattie Stewart; brothers, Lawrence, Walter and Emmett Stewart; nephew, Lorne Stewart and her special friend, Brien Drew. In keeping with Lena’s request there will be no visitation or service. A private family graveside service will take place in All Saints Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date with Canon John Cathcart officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff of York Care Center for their care and compassion given to Lena. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the All Saints Anglican Church.
