Avis and the family:
I only met Ferne once when she was visiting you, Avis, in Chatham; but her name is very familiar to me, for my husband spoke of her often. She was his Grade One teacher, and at the end of that year she presented him with a book entitled "Milk, Our First Food", inscribing it 'To Conrad, Little Farmer, for highest average in school.' That book is still in the family's possession and in very good condition.
Please accept my sincerest sympathies on your loss.
