Obituary of Barbara Gill

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Barbara J. Gill at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on June 30, 2013. Born in Fredericton, April 15, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Annie Gill. Barbara is survived by her daughter Jennifer Ann Mills (Robert Nickerson) of Moncton, two sons Matthew Mills of Minto and Sean Mills of Newfoundland, her five grandchildren Angus Cole Nickerson, Annie Jean Nickerson, Malcolm Robert Nickerson, newborn Maisie Barbara-Ann Nickerson and Brody Chase Langdon, sisters Susan Harris (Tony), Heather Bird (Pat) and brother Harry Gill (Mary Lee), nieces Sarah and Rachael Bird, and nephews Adam and Andrew Harris and Spencer Gill. Barbara was a registered nurse, entrepreneur and accomplished writer. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking and spent many creative hours with her needlework and writing. Most important to her was her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose happiest times were those spent with her grandchildren and she was so rewarded with their precious kisses and hugs; her eyes would light up as she told yet another story of her time with them. Being grandmother took center stage in a life of many accomplishments. It gave her great joy to sew, knit and prepare quilts for these special little people in her life. The family is so very grateful that she was able to have time with her newest grandbaby, Maisie, born June 20th. Barbara was a generous caring person who was always reaching out to others. She will be missed by many. Barbara had a wonderful support system of caring friends and the family is appreciative of all they did for her over the past years, and especially those who were there in her final hours. Barbara’s family wishes to also thank the wonderful staff at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, both in emergency and in Palliative Care, where Barbara and her family were treated with such caring and professional staff. Although there will be no visitation by request, the family will host a reception to celebrate Barbara’s life at Nashwaaksis United Church on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 12:00 noon. A private graveside service will be held for family at another time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Writers Federation of New Brunswick, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
