Obituary of Aubrey Dorcas

The passing of Aubrey Wilson Dorcas of Fredericton, NB, husband of Brenda (Hunter) Dorcas occurred on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 21, 1938 in Williamsburg, NB, he was the son of the late Edgar and Hilda (Merrill) Dorcas. Aubrey worked for the Fredericton Police Force from 1964-1978 and then moved on to become Police Chief in Blackville, NB. In addition to his work in the police force, he provided security at St.Anne Nackawic Pulp Mill. He was a certified scaffolderm, who worked on projects including the Princess Margaret Bridge renovations. Aubrey was also a member of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1956-1964. In addition to his wife, Aubrey is survived by his daughters, Heather Dorcas-Reed (Mike King) of Fredericton, NB, Brenda Dorcas of Saint John, NB, Cindy Love (Peter Shea) of Fredericton, NB, Courtney Hemphill (Matthew) of Grand Falls, NB and Joyce Gerrard (Kenneth) of Cold Lake, AB; son, Wade Dorcas of Fredericton, NB; stepchildren, Jaime Burtt (Angie), Shelley Christie (Brian), Jennifer Jamieson (George) all of Fredericton, NB and Jeffrey Hunter of Halifax, NS; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Marleen Dorcas of Fredericton, NB; brother, Sterling Dorcas (Bernice) of Fredericton, NB; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
