Obituary of Catherine Marie Ley nee (Doctor) MacNeil

With saddened hearts, the family wishes to announce the passing of Catherine Marie Ley nee (Doctor) MacNeil , of Fredericton, New Brunswick, wife of the late Arthur Leo Ley, which occurred on Monday, December 09, 2024, at York Care Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born February 7, 1929, in Cape Breton she was a daughter to the late Jim Alex and Mary MacNeil.

Raised in great faith on the family farm in rural Cape Breton she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She touched many lives with her quiet strength and devotion.

In her early years, she worked at Saint Rita’s hospital in Sydney. A certified Dressmaker, she enjoyed spending quiet time sewing, knitting and crafting. As impressive and skilled as she was, she would return any complement with “I just do the best I can” accompanied by her sweet smile.

In her humble and modest nature, she lovingly cared for her husband and children, whom she loved dearly. Providing a strong foundation, she set a wonderful example of faith, respectfulness and resilience.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Duguay (Rick) of Elora, Ontario and Laura Gordon (Paul) of Nashwaak Bridge, New Brunswick; sons, Arthur Ley (Deb) of Buffalo, New York, Jim Ley (Lisa) of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Sandy Ley (Lisa) of Fredericton, New Brunswick and Robert Ley of Fredericton, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Candice, Corey, David, Justin, Joey, Kenneth, Alex, Luke, Ian and Alexis; great grandchildren, Chloe, Callie, Clive and Liam; sisters, Catherine Campbell and Theresa Butts; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Mike MacNeil, Charlie MacNeil, Joe MacNeil, John MacNeil, John Archie MacNeil, Sidney MacNeil, Duncan MacNeil and Jimmy MacNeil.

The family wishes to thank York Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion they provided.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM; followed by a service at 2 pm with Father Peter Ozborne officiating. Interment will take place in Cape Breton, at a later date.
