Obituary of Azizollah Hakimian

It is with great sadness that the family of Azizollah Hakimian, announces his peaceful passing at Hospice in Fredericton, NB on Friday December 6, 2024, at the age of 92.

Aziz was born in Yazd, Iran in 1932 and immigrated to Canada in 1988 with his wife and son. He was the beloved husband to Rezvan Hakimian for 62 years.

In addition to his wife, Aziz leaves behind his son, Payman Hakimian (Jackie); and grandchildren, Arya and Armon. Aziz was predeceased by his parents, Ali and Manzar Hakimian, and his two sisters and two brothers.

Those who knew Aziz best would describe him as a quiet man with a gentle soul. He had a love for reading and writing poetry and published two poetry books. He had a career of over 25 years in Iran teaching literature and history and was versed in philosophy and theology. When he came to Canada, he worked at the Harriet Irving Library at UNB Fredericton until he retired.

When he was in good health, Aziz enjoyed long walks and getting together with family and friends and was very fond of poetry nights. His love for his grandsons was immeasurable and they brought the biggest smile to his face. Aziz will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A celebration of life will be held at the Killarney Lake Rotary Centennial Lodge on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2:00pm. To honour Aziz’s wishes, we ask that you please not wear black. A private interment will take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Aziz’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and Hospice Fredericton for the compassionate care given to Aziz. For those who wish, donations in Aziz’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
